AAA Says One Mile = 50.2 Cents!
Commissioner Tommy Adkisson
March 25, 2004

That's right, the American Automobile Association says that if you travel just one mile, that will cost you $1.00!  And it doesn't take the ever-rising price per gallon of gas to realize that we are waltzing ourselves right into the web of OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) by our dependency on traditional fuels for our vehicles.  We are and I submit will continue to be the leader of the free world, if you and I do our part to make the necessary change in how we deal with energy and its proper use.  In addition, if we change, we gain personally in the long-run, by developing alternatives to traditional energy use.

Your Commissioner's Court receives a large number of presentations on vital issues of the day.  Our local Commute Solutions Leadership from Bexar County and the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) recently provided us with the following findings, which I thought might be of interest to you.  As you review this, please remember that the process of changing one of our most basic transportation habits will not occur "over night".  But the specter of $2.00 and $3.00 per gallon in the future will accelerate the pace of our need to make changes!
